EducationThe Transylvania County School system has earned recognition as one of North Carolina’s top performing school districts serving approximately 3800 students in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. It includes four elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and one alternative school. Founded in 1853, Brevard College, a private, four-year liberal arts college located in downtown Brevard, is the oldest college in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Outside magazine has ranked Brevard College as one of the best Colleges and Brevard as one of the best college towns in America. Inaugurated in 1998, the Porter Center for Performing Arts at Brevard College has quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest performance halls in the South.
